The Joy's of Grocery Shopping

Grocery

Grocery shopping, whether you do a smaller shop twice a week or a big shop once a month, is never a fun task. The list writing, the cupboard checking, the meal planning, the driving, the slog around the store, the paying, the driving home and the unpacking- none of that screams 'good time' to me. As a Virgo (if you didn't know, I am quite into horoscopes) I am blessed with decent organisational skills so the meal planning and list writing isn't such a challenge. Personally, I write my list out in the order of the shop layout. It may sound nutty but it's more about lessening the amount of walking I have to do. I'd hate to be in the dairy section and suddenly see shampoo on the list!

Thankfully I am jetting off on Sunday so I get away with not having to do the shop next week (YAY!). As it is just my mum and I going on this girly holiday the food shop looked a little different this week as I was just buying stuff for dad (who has to stay here with the dog). I am a bit selfish with the food shop and I tend to stock up on Kala Chana, fruit, veggies and Actimel knowing full well that none of those products are the top of dads list. So, this week he actually got what he asked for: Kit Kat Chunky, jalapenos, ready made pesto (I always make it fresh), steak, dolcelatte and pringles. I am fully expecting to come back from my holiday and find a 920739lbs man stuck in one of the garden chairs, but hey- it keeps him happy.

I have come to dread Wednesday mornings thanks to the food shop. It may seem a bit abnormal for the daughter to be doing the weekly shop, but with parents that work full time- it just makes sense (and I don't pay rent so at least I am kind of pulling my weight). I was really keen to get it over and done with this morning so I decided to crack out the Nutribullet and make a shake to drink in the car on my way there (Check it out on Instagram @soulfoodfrancesca). It looked pretty vile but trust me it was delicious, nutricious and kept me going until I came back and had a cheeky mocha-hazelnut frappe (again made in the Nutribullet). Here is the recipe for my Breakfast Shake:

12g (half a scoop) Vanilla Whey Protein (I use Precision)

1 Nectarine

10g Oats

2 Ice Cubes

1 Raspberry Actimel

Just pop it all into the Nutribullet with a slug of water and blitz it!
